Sharing is Caring

Teaching Multiplication and Division of Fractions…oh my!

Teaching multiplication and division of fractions conceptually can be a challenge. We were all probably taught in a procedural manner. In this presentation, watch as Christy Lyle works with high school students who know the procedure and are working to understand the concept.

What do you notice about Christy’s approach?
What makes sense about the students’ initial errors?

  1. Using models will support students’ understanding of both multiplication and division of fractions. The symbolic (algorithms) can be drawn from the concrete modelling. This was a great presentation.
